  2. Koos; population (1983) 206,200. Industries
  3. include agricultural machinery, chemicals,
  4. non-ferrous metallurgy, leather goods,
  5. printing, glass, textiles, clothing, and
  6. brewing. Created seat of a bishopric by St
  7. Ladislas in 1083, Oradea was destroyed by the
  8. Turks in 1241 and rebuilt. Many of its
  9. buildings date from the reign of Maria
  10. Theresa in the 18th century. It was ceded by
  11. Hungary to Romania in 1919 and held by
  12. Hungary 1940-45.
